Global and industry changes are reshaping the business environment and the way business will be done in the future. As a Consulting Futurist I study the future. And as a Consulting Futurist I help businesses predict the future, based on evidence, for their own unique business situation.
My Riverina Prediction Of The Week is that by 2029, 60% of Australians will not have a Drivers Licence because cars will be self-driving, as will trucks, and harvesters; and with this will come new jobs that do not currently exist.
The move to autonomous vehicles is underpinned by a number of global trends. These include technology advances in artificial intelligence and sensors; social pressure to eliminate road deaths, as well as mobility for the disabled; economic pressure to reduce the cost and impact of road trauma in the health system; and environmental benefits.
The first cars were resisted by blacksmiths operating in a horse driven economy. And while most blacksmiths lost their jobs, the car driven economy created far more. But the blacksmiths who went to a Consulting Futurist set up service stations to look after cars instead of horses. Automation has always created more jobs than it destroys, but it requires businesses to develop strategies and plans to adapt to global and industry trends for their specific business situation.
There are both opportunities and risks in the autonomous vehicle future.
